Vehicle Tracking, Monitoring, Management and Recovery:
Overview
Orbtech's Buddi-track products where the
first vehicle tracking systems in South Africa providing 'live-online-all-the-time' tracking
utilising GPRS (a high speed Internet data communication service on GSM
cellular networks). The GPRS based Buddi-Track was publicly launched in June
2003 in conjunction with Toyota SA at the Kyalami race track in Midrand.
Four Toyota RunX RSI 1.8 vehicles where fitted with the systems and tracked
in real-time (1 second intervals!) as the vehicles raced around the circuit.
Orbtech also took part in the Toyota Hilux 72 hour endurance speed test held in October 2003 at Gerotek’s high speed test circuit west of Pretoria. Each of the eight vehicles used in the endurance test where fitted with Orbtech’s Buddi-Track GPRS satellite tracking system. Each vehicle was monitored in real-time (information such as time, speed, distance and altitude was transmitted every second) and various reports were provided to Toyota throughout the 72-hour event. Toyota set 89 new speed and distance records, “the first-ever endurance records for commercial vehicles in South Africa”. Custom real-time reporting was developed especially for the event (Click on images below to enlarge).
